  • This musical, inspired by Grease and Teen Beach Movie, was a production in which I participated as both a dancer and an actress. It tells the story of Sally and Danny, two young people with opposite lifestyles who fall in love over the summer and learn to unite their worlds, proving that love overcomes differences.

  • At my former school, La Salle Abel (a traditional Christian institution) I participated in the Via Sacra performance, an important Easter tradition, where I played “Verônica”, combining acting and singing as I performed Canto da Paixão do Senhor for an audience of nearly 300 people.

  • The 11th-grade Talent Show, organized and performed by students, gathered around 400 people in the school auditorium. I took part as a singer and songwriter, performing my original love song live for the first time

  • This unforgettable show, presented for about 500 people at our school theatre, was the main closing event organized by the graduating class of 2024. I took part in several key moments: opening the act by singing Brazilian classics, hosting a talk show I created called De Frente com Manu, and performing a farewell dance alongside classmates and our Art teacher.

  • I have always loved creating covers and shaping each performance to reflect the emotions a song inspires in me. In this section of my portfolio, I present a small showcase of my work, featuring diverse musical styles and covers of artists I deeply admire.

  • I see songwriting as a way to express my personal feelings and artistic vision. Over the years, I have written songs in both Portuguese and English, often focusing on love, while also enjoying the creation of fictional characters to explore their unique emotions and stories.

In this musical play, the script was an original story written by one of the students, based on a mix of the movies “Grease” and “Teen Beach Movie”. In this version, “Sally”, the character I had the opportunity to play, meets an enchanting boy during the summer and hopes to continue the romance through the school year, but finds herself confused by the fact that he has an entirely different lifestyle. While “Danny” is a “biker” who wears leather jackets and plays the guitar, “Sandy”, on the other hand, is a romantic and lovely lady. Somehow, during the show, they manage to combine the two opposite universes and take the best of it, concretizing their love.

The play was divided into three moments, which are represented by three main songs: “Summer Nights”, portraying the sparkle of Sally’s and Danny’s romance, “Cruisin’ For A Bruisin’” representing their different lifestyle, and “Gotta Be Me” when they finally stay together, proving that two different people can love each other.

Considering that the school where I studied and graduated, La Salle Abel, was a traditional Christian institution, some religious celebrations were commonly held on special occasions.  One of these traditions is the Via Sacra, a Christian Easter event that represents Jesus' path to his crucifixion. It consists of 14 stations that portray his journey from condemnation to the resurrection.

As a part of this tradition, a group of students, guided by the religion teachers, recreated the Via Sacra through a theatrical event for nearly 300 people. I was invited to play “Verônica”, a woman who, moved by compassion, steps out of the crowd and wipes Jesus’ face, whose image miraculously remains printed on the fabric used. As “Verônica”, I appeared in the 6th station of the Via Crucis and sang “Canto da Paixão do Senhor”.

VERONICA PERFORMANCE

This show, entirely organized and performed by a group of 11th-grade students, took place in one of the school’s auditoriums for an audience of approximately 400 people, including students, teachers, and other members of the school community.

Preparing for the Talent Show was certainly a demanding process. It took the group nearly a month of planning and countless rehearsals to ensure that every song, performed entirely by students, met our quality standards. However, the final result made every effort worthwhile. Seeing the audience engage with the emotional journey we had created, feeling their excitement in each song, and observing their amazement at the music we were producing was truly unforgettable.

One of the most memorable moments for me personally was performing an original song in public for the very first time. Unlike the covers we presented, this was a love song I had written and composed myself. Sharing such a personal creation on stage was both nerve-wracking and rewarding.

Convite digital para o Talent Show, realizado em 17 de novembro, das 10h às 13h30, no Auditório Irmão Amado na UniAlasalle, com lista de participantes e apresentação do La Salle.

This unforgettable show was presented for an audience of around 500 people at our school theatre, as the main “closing event organized by the graduating class of 2024. It is a long-standing tradition that gives seniors the final opportunity to create lasting memories, express their creativity, and celebrate the journey they have shared throughout their school years.

For five weeks, we rehearsed daily, a challenging yet completely rewarding routine, especially for me, as I was involved in several key moments of the show.

I had the honor of opening the act at the event alongside a friend, singing a parody of “Não Deixe o samba morrer” by the prestigious singer Alcione, followed by  “O Que É o Que É” by Gonzaguinha (an iconic Brazilian artist whose music holds cultural and social meaning). Our performance began a cappella, creating a special atmosphere that was gradually transformed into a vibrant celebration inspired by the Brazilian Carnival, with other students and teachers joining in on percussion instruments and dancing.

Later, I returned to the stage as the host of a talk show, which I created especially for the occasion called “De Frente com Manu” (Face to Face with Manu). At this moment, I invited one of our dear teachers on stage for a quick interview, which certainly brought back nostalgic memories of shared moments from our years in the school.

My last appearance was in a group dance performance with other students and our Art teacher, Cecilia. We performed the first dance to the song “Força Estranha”, written by Caetano Veloso and famously sung by Gal Costa, followed by “Epitáfio” by Titãs. Both songs carry deep reflections on the passing of time and the importance of valuing simple things as everyday moments (themes that reflected perfectly on our farewell to school and the uncertain future that awaits us).

My covers

I have always loved making covers and creating a unique performance for each song according to the feeling it evokes in me. In this part of my portfolio, I chose some diverse music styles to perform in a little showcase of my work, covering other artists I admire in both artistic and personal ways.

I have recently started posting some covers on my TikTok account: @manuelapiresr

All my loving
Favorite crime
Back to black

In this audio, I sing and play the guitar for the song “All My Loving” from The Beatles alongside my guitar teacher, Julio Sao Paio.

In this audio, I sing and play the guitar to “Favorite Crime” from Olivia Rodrigo.

In this audio, I sing and play the guitar to “Back to Black” by Amy Winehouse, which I really admire and get inspired by.

Primarily inspired by real-life situations, I always saw writing songs as the best way to share my art and personal feelings with the world. Over the past few years, I have composed several songs in both Portuguese and English, exploring a range of themes with a particular emphasis on love, as this is the subject that inspires me the most.         Nevertheless, I also enjoy creating fictional characters for my songs, allowing them to experience their own emotions and unique stories.

In the video below, I am singing an original song composed by me (melody, lyrics, and chords) in February 2023. My great friend Thiago also appears in the video playing the guitar alongside me.
